The fluvial environment of the Rimac River is in a state of progressive deterioration as it passes through the historic city centre of Lima. Unplanned urban development and the implementation of various mobility infrastructures have not only increased its vulnerability to flooding, but have also weakened its potential as a green corridor and main public space in the metropolis of Lima. In this context, one of the objectives of the Rimac River Special Landscape Project (PEPRR) is to mitigate the risk of disasters, erosion and degradation of the riverbed and banks. In this way, the active environmental restoration of this river axis will not only promote its resilience and adaptation to climate change, but also encourage the provision of ecosystem services, thus promoting the public and recreational use of this potential green corridor.
